"and sorry to go back to the arguments but the only risk of us being plunged into an ice age is if the gulf stream stops... unfortunately it is indeed slowing down at the moment, because of what? melting ice caps.. guess what causes them? global warming.
so while i am not against cars, and as previously mentioned i happilly "get on my bike" at every possible oppurtunity. the ice age you want global warming to save us from is caused by it (and also not certain by a long shot)"
there's another thing we have a shortage of, bike friendly roads. You are either riding in the breakdown lane with cars literally right next to you or your on a road that has no breakdown lane. Hell, it doesn't have a sidewalk.
But I worry more about potentially running low on oil in the future. I don't think people think about the impact of oil in our daily lives and how we have no real fuel alternatives that are cost-effective or do not still depend on oil.
I wonder what will happen if we do run low. I don't think we will ever run out completely but how we live and where we live will change dramatically.

I have read on the Gulf Stream slowing down too. There are two thoughts on this. One thought that never seems to get any coverage is that the Earth goes through "Ice Ages" normally. Our burning of fossile fuels has no impact on that what's so ever.
Arturo you are correct. There is no real bike lanes that I would feel safe in. They make dedicated lanes on the roads but drivers are always using them for right turn lanes. (Illegal turns) This is why I will ride my bike on back streets and the River Trail....not worth risking my life or my family's on the main roads. We will ride for pleasure.

i have to say arto i agree with you about the bike friendly roads, the situation is being improved in london at the moment but i still have to spend most of my time didging traffic. is anything being done in major american cities?- views from
i will say no more about the effects of global warming, i personally am doing research into entanglement at the moment but as many esteemed minds in the field of climate science (including some of my colleagues) are still unable to agree on this issue i dont feel any of us are qualified to really discuss it here.
some sites of interest:
http://www.odysen.com/news/Environme...FSfFEAoduCiPiw
http://yosemite.epa.gov/oar/globalwa...ent/index.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming
i and some of my colleagues have contributed revsions to the wiki, and the other two sites include links to some interesting articles on the matter
the new scientist (newscientist.com) and the scientific american have also offered interesting articles for both sides of the debate.

Totally agree, I don't wake up in a sweat because of this, but it is worrying.
Plastic is made of Oil. Everything is made of plastic. Personally I don't want to go back to the wooden contraceptives used in Victorian times.

I would ride my bike like I used to but I have seen too many mangled bodies in bicycles and motorcycles in real life to feel safe doing so.

No kidding....there is this ONE guy every morning when I am just starting out to work and heading for the Freeway....He rides his bike facing toward traffic and he is wearing very dark clothes. He has come close to me clipping him while I am coming around a curve. Totally irresponsible. Of course if I hit him I would get the ticket. You need to wear reflective clothing!!! Also you need to respect the rules of the road...ride on the correct side.
Another thing about motorcycles. They complain about getting respect on the roads...then they have to ride responsible as well. Allot do...allot don't. Nothing pisses me off more then to see a motorcycle flying down the road weaving in and out of traffic. For one it scares the crap out of you to suddenly see a motorcycle just *pop* in front of you. Makes me want to throw a stick into their front spokes....

$555.00 is a good price for engine work. Yes...it stings to pay this out. However, remember...it is still cheaper then a monthly car payment. And didn't the Dood mention the thermostat?
I had to pay $900.00 out for my Security system on my GM. You know the ones with the resister in the middle of the keys. Well that went out and of course the car will not start. That one burned my shorts....Car Companies should warranty these kinds of repairs for the life of the car. They are a joke anyways. If someone wanted to steal my car...they will.

My Ford uses those keys with the programmable chip inside. Lose one of those and you're out over $200. For a KEY that doesn't even protect against the car being hotwired or whatever. Bleh.
Hm, I wonder if my insurance company knows I have those keys, they *should* give some sort of discount...

On my key the chip sends a code that enables the engine control unit (ECU) to work, without the encrypted key code the engine cannot start by being hotwired unless you cracked the code also. Wtf will I do if lose my keys o_o'

Cry?
My '98 civic has it set up so that the engine won't start unless I use it's little clicker thing that comes with the keys to open it. It cuts off the ignition or something like that from what I understand. It's nice until the stupid watch battery in the clicker dies, and then I get to be pissed as all get out while i wait for someone to show up with my spare car keys.
And my parents' new Hondas, and my mom's old BMW that she traded in had those expensive keys. I couldn't live with things like those, I'd probably lose them regularly and be regularly out $200.

Well GM's Keys are a joke...once that "resister" breaks you are forced to cough up the cash for ALL your keys for that vehicle.

when i took it in to get it looked at i did happen to metion that to my dad and turns out you were right Dood! Ya $555.00 is a pretty good price since one guy taht we talked to who thought it might be a gasket problem said it would be well over a grand! The mechanic is a family friend so i think he gave us a discount! course thats just homer though hes a great guy. knows probably everything about cars. $900.00 on a security system i think is not needed. unless u live in a high crime area i wouldnt worry about it but eh. so Dood do you think that my intake gasket is going out? im losing engine coolant but its not showing up anywhere taht would say a leak in my hoses. Homer thinks it is so I'm gonna say hes right, but if you want to say what you think go ahead i trust your judgement and diagnosis!
Edit: it is getting worked on tomorrow so i should have it back by tomorrow night and ill let you all know if its fixed for good or not.

Go with Homer...I am no mechanic. I only figure out afew things from paying out the nose all these years. Looks like your friend is cutting back on the labor. I look at labor from a "Shop" as about 2/3rd the price of the part. If a part cost $100.00. Labor would be $200.00...and so on.
If your friend thinks it is the intake gasket then he would know.
EDIT: The reason I HAD to buy a new security systems was the car would not run period if I didn't...my mechanic's tried to by pass the system but couldn't once the batter was disconected. *sigh*

Yeah the problem he told me was taht with my car when you replace one gasket you have to replace every single gasket... not cheap. also if I am not mistaken labor goes by the hour so the parts cost $100 so the labor would be $200, times that by 6.5 and you have around $1,300 for it. I am gonna have to say that he took of HUGE for labor. Homer has always been able to fix my car so i do believe that once i get it back this time i should be good. funny thing is people said my car is crap and my enigine must suck, ya except everythign AROUND the engine is breaking, not the engine itself. lets see if i remember exactly what it is umm i know its a V6 and i think its a 3.01L its a great engine, rest of the stuff is just falling apart. o well hope its fixed for a long time now.
wow car doesnt run without a security system.. that would defiently tick me off.

I managed to piss someone off the other day not exactly sure how but apperantly he did not like me in frount of him (i did NOT cut him off)
So here is a dick swearing and cursing me, trying to over take me and slam on his brakes (there is a truck in the vercinity that we are sharing the road with). All the stupid crap. This continues and i manuevere around his dumb self.
I go to turn off the street that he is going straight on and he pulls up beside me yelling what i was later told was "your plucking dead".
Instead of yelling abuse back, i just blew him a kiss (i'm a guy) he shut up and got his eyes back on the road and that was that.

anyways my car is getting worked on right now i do believe so hopefully ill have it back by tonight and can tell you all what was wrong with it for sure.

3. people who park in handicap zone who are not handicap(unless your using a wheelchair you shouldn't park here)
4. men who use the expecant mother parking space
5. fat people who use the handicap parking spaces(your fat park in the back it will do you some good)
6. people with kids who don't use child saftey seats(almost punched one woman i saw doing this)
7. people who don't understand the meaning of a green light.
8. people who don't use there driveways(they park in the road in front of there house and on my street its really bad cause there is hardly enough room for 2 cars going in different directions as it is)

Hm, now that you mention it, my car is the same way. So I was wrong, my car can't be hotwired for this same reason.
I've lost my key before, so I'll fill you in on what happens. You call your Roadside Assistance, who sends out a vehicle locksmith. They have the ability to make you a new key and program it, but you have to have a special code for your key so they can program the chip. I was able to get this because I kept the little tags that came with my key in the owner's manual. $200 later I had a brand new key.
I then found my "lost" key that night. Pwned.
